ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an effective form of medical treatment that has evolved into a comprehensive holistic healthcare system. Practitioners of acupuncture and Chinese medicine have used this non-invasive treatment method to help millions of people heal and maintain good health.
Acupuncture promotes natural healing. It can strengthen recovery power and immunity, support physical and emotional health, and improve overall functionality and well-being. It is a safe and effective way to treat a wide variety of medical issues.
How does acupuncture treatment work?
I will inquire about your overall health condition as well as specific details of your reason for consultation (when the problem started, how it has progressed, its symptoms, etc.). This information will enable me to establish an energy assessment. Then, we can develop a treatment plan.
Afterwards, you will lie down for the placement of the needles. They are all sterile, single-use, and disposable. Throughout our session, I will ensure your comfort. However, it is normal to sometimes feel a slight pinch during insertion, which diminishes shortly after, or sometimes even a more persistent and continuous stimulation by a needle. Depending on the type of consultation, I will leave the needles in place for 20 to 40 minutes.
Is acupuncture painful?
The needles used are barely thicker than a hair strand. Although you may feel an initial pinch, the sensations that follow are generally varied but rarely painful. During the placement period, you may experience various sensations such as heaviness, warmth, tingling, numbness, or even occasionally a mild electric shock!
These sensations may vary from person to person and are all normal and sometimes even desired for energy activation. If a needle remains uncomfortable beyond a few seconds, your acupuncturist will adjust the puncture position to help you relax. Overall, the experience of a session is pleasant and relaxing.
How many treatments are needed?
Depending on your health condition, the duration of your symptoms, and your lifestyle, the duration of treatment may vary. Although most people feel improvement after the first treatment, it is likely that subsequent visits will be necessary to consolidate results and derive maximum benefit.
Do you have to believe in acupuncture to see results?
According to studies in Western medicine, belief in a treatment modality can greatly influence its effectiveness, whether positively through the placebo effect or negatively through the nocebo effect. This biological feedback phenomenon can occur even with proven modalities.
Therefore, I suggest adopting a pragmatic attitude towards your acupuncture journey; observe the changes yourself over the sessions, whether they are subtle or very evident. Objective evaluation, such as the frequency and duration of a symptom per week, as well as subjective evaluation, such as the quality of a sensation, will help better understand the progression of your condition.
Of course, having confidence in the process and in the therapist is fundamental to having a better overall experience.
Do you provide insurance receipts?
Yes.
Many group insurance plans offer partial or complete coverage for acupuncture treatment expenses. I recommend checking directly with your insurer for details of your coverage.
Are you a member of a professional order?
Yes.
To practice in Quebec, every acupuncturist must be a member of the Ordre des Acupuncteurs du Québec. This ensures that he or she possesses the qualifications and skills necessary to practice this profession legally and ethically in the province.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Debit card, Interac e-transfers and cash are accepted.
